Pay Per Play

26 December 2007

Years ago Pay Per Click ads took the world by storm. Today there is a new form of ads called Pay Per Play which claims that they will be as successful as Pay Per Click ads.

NetAudioAds came up with a form of audio ads called pay per play (aff). As the name implies webmasters get paid for every time the audio ad is played on their site. Each audio ad will last for 5 seconds. There are also 30 seconds audio ads for webmasters to choose from.

Just like Google Adsense, pay per play audio ads will be playing ads that are relevant to the content of your site.

Affiliates who refer advertisers or bloggers through their affiliate link also stand to benefit from their affiliate sales.

Here is their compensation structure from the FAQ page.

QUESTION: What is the compensation structure for this program?

ANSWER:

25% of what the advertiser spends on PPP ads you serve on your own website(s).
5% of what the advertiser spends on PPP ads played on the website(s) of those you refer.
5% of what the advertiser spends on PPP ads played on the website(s) that your direct referrals bring on board.

NetAudioAds announce that pay per play ads will only officially start playing ads on 1st February 2008. In the mean time NetAduioAds are marketing this new form of advertising method.

The current question is how effective is pay per play ads for bloggers/webmasters and advertisers?

For bloggers/webmasters pay per play ads means 100% 'click through rate'. Every time a visitor visits the page with a pay per play ad, the ad will be automatically played. Visitors have no control over if they want the ads to be played or not. Unlike traditional pay per click ads, visitors can have the freedom to choose if they want to click on certain ads or not. This spells high conversion rates for bloggers/webmasters.

Advertisers can stand to benefit too.In pay per click ads, advertisers will only stand to gain if their pay per click advertisements catch the eyes of the visitors. In another words, advertiser's ads will be ineffective if people did not see them. These cases are frequent in pages that contains too many text, ads, or ads are placed in less noticeable locations. Unlike pay per click, visitors will be exposed to the ads upon entering the site.. unless they have their speaker muted or they are hearing impaired. well this is the down side of pay per play ads for the advertisers but it does not affect bloggers/webmasters revenue at all since the 'play rate' will still be 100%.

Lets talk about how visitors will feel when being exposed to audio ads. Irritated perhaps? well i will definitely be irritated even though it is just a 5 second audio ad. Imagine listening to your favourite song on the music player and to be interrupted by a 5 second or worse, a 30 second commercial! However NetAudioAds claims that complains are few and it will not cause traffic drop in sites with audi ads because ads played are just 5 seconds short.

I am going to try pay per play audio ads out, perhaps on this blog, no matter how much it irritates me. Just to see how the system work and if it is an effective way to make money online.

We can only see how effective pay per play audio ads are after it is launched on 1st Feburary next year. So in the meantime we will just have to wait.If you are interested in becoming a member feel free to sign up (aff).
